How to wash your Sullivan Hairwear topper

Human hair toppers require regular washing and conditioning, just like your own natural hair, to maintain their softness and shine. They can accumulate dirt, oils, and styling products over time, which can affect their appearance and longevity.

Here is how we do it:

    • Close all of the clips and brush out any tangles before you begin with a paddle brush
    • We recommend washing your topper in cool water with SEVEN shampoo (hotlink to products).
    • Thoroughly rinse out the shampoo, squeezing out any excess water and then pat the topper dry with a towel.  Do NOT rub it, as this will cause the hairs to tangle.
    • With a small amount of SEVEN conditioner on your hand, squeeze it into the hairs BELOW the base.  NOTE:  Conditioning the base will shorten the lifespan of the topper.
    • Lay the topper on a towel and let the conditioner work for 3-5 minutes.
    • Thoroughly rinse the conditioner out under cool running water.
    • Squeeze out any excess water and pat the topper dry with towel.  Do NOT rub it, as this will cause the hairs to tangle.
    • Let the topper air dry while fluffed on a towel overnight or on the Plastic Travel Mannequin. Do NOT store a wet topper on the canvas mannequin to air dry, it will not allow the air to circulate and will take longer to dry.
    • If you wish to blow dry your topper, pin it to the mannequin head, by placing the pins in the clips of the topper base or the rim of the topper base – not the mesh base itself.  The pulling of the brush with pins in the mesh could cause the base to rip.
    • Apply SEVEN Leave In Conditioner and start to blow dry.
    • If you are using clips to section off your hair, make certain you are only clipping hair to hair, and not hair to the base.
    • Once dry, before you start to style, don’t forget to apply SEVEN Heat Defense Spray to protect your topper from the heat.
